In September, we welcomed attendees to Leather4Craft for our Leatherworking Skills & Techniques Workshop, a hands-on session dedicated to learning the essential skills behind traditional leathercraft.
Unlike our project-based workshops, this session focused on building confidence with leatherworking tools, understanding different types of leather and developing techniques that can be used across a wide range of future projects.
Mastering the Fundamentals
Throughout the session, attendees explored a variety of essential leatherworking techniques, from preparing leather and marking stitch lines to mastering traditional hand saddle stitching using a stitching pony.
There was also an opportunity to practise cutting accurate shapes, finishing leather edges through beveling and burnishing, and learning how to choose the right leather for different projects.
With guidance from our team, participants could practise each technique, ask questions and build a better understanding of the processes that go into creating high-quality leather goods.
Learning Through Practice
One of the most rewarding parts of the workshop was seeing attendees develop their skills through hands-on practice. Whether learning to achieve neat, consistent stitching or refining their edge-finishing techniques, everyone had the opportunity to gain practical experience in a supportive environment.
These foundational skills provide a great starting point for anyone looking to explore leathercraft further, from making small accessories to tackling more ambitious projects.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us in September! We loved sharing our knowledge and helping more people discover the craft of working with leather.
